Asian Tattoos Get Lost in Translation

Asian tattoos have become very popular over the last couple of years. Some may say its the mysteriousness behind them that attracts people to them or uniqueness of the Asian characters. Not to mention it's a great conversation piece because people will constantly be asking you what it means. They also have some sort of sex appeal to them. However, there is a growing problem that has been linked to Asian tattoos. The meaning of the character is lost in translation or the meaning of what people think it means turns out to be something completely different.

Many athletes and celebrities sport some sort of Asian tattoo and they too have become victim to the lost in translation of their tattoo. Below is a list of athletes and celebrities that have some sort of Asian tattoo that has been lost in translation or the meaning has been misinterpreted.

* Chris Anderson of the Denver Nuggets got the Chinese character for "good" on one shoulder and "bad" on the other. But it seems something got lost in translation because the character for "bad" also means "nausea".

*Shawn Marion of the Toronto Raptors likes to refer to himself as"The Matrix" and wanted to tell the world to knows this so he decided to inscribing it in Mandarin on his leg. But to Chinese it reads: "Demon bird camphor".

*The very talented Justin Timberlake has the character "qu", which means "song", but also "bent, crooked or wrong".

* Britney Spears has some Kabbalah symbols on the back of her neck. It is suppose to translate to "healing". But there has been many reports claiming that the three symbols are out of order so her tattoo doesn't really mean anything.

The lesson that should be learned here is make darn sure that when you are getting any kind of Asian tattoo be sure that your character really means what you think it means

Punk Rock Tattoos - Where to Look For Cool Punk Rock Tattoos That Would Make Henry Rollins Proud

Recently I went to a local parlor to have a gander at some punk rock tattoos and boy, was I stumped! I flicked through quite a number of designs but none caught my fancy as they all look pretty lame and unoriginal, while some are even ugly as sin! I thought to myself "Man I would never allow my body to be decorated with such dreadful looking creations. If I'm to have tattoos that would probably stick with me for the rest of my life, they shall be one I respect."

So I did what any other punk rock fan living in the world of information technology would do, I walked out of the tattoo parlor and went straight home to my trusty computer. I banked on the mighty search power of Google to help me find some great looking punk rock tattoos. The designs that I wanted must meet the following criteria:

1. Cool and stylish artwork. Of course, excellent design is a must as you do not want to get stuck with a hideous looking tattoo that makes you want save up for a tattoo removal surgery.

2. Uniqueness. Have you seen some of the punk rock tattoos available out there? They completely lack originality and you might wind up having the same tattoo design like everybody else. This is completely unacceptable.

Yes I know what you're thinking; is it possible to find "unique" and "cool" punk rock tattoos online? I understand your concern as most of the offerings on the internet are cookie-cutter creations and what's more, many tattoo artists are simply lazy to come up with new designs so they often resort to common lazy man's tactics of switching the color or making extremely slight changes to a particular tattoo art in order to pass them off as fresh, brand new designs.

Okay, so how do you look for a large selection of punk rock tattoos that meets the criteria that I've outlined above? Simple, when you're surfing online, keep your eyes peeled for tattoo art databases. Unlike the typical tattoo shops samples and free websites which are laden with bland, uninspiring, zero-originality creations, most online tattoo art databases are constantly updated with terrific tattoo artwork that oozes creative flair.

So if you're looking for cool punk rock tattoos to add to your bodily collection, I'd recommend you head over to online tattoo art databases as they contain a lot of unique, rebellious designs that would make even legendary hardcore punk rocker Henry Rollins beam with pride.

How to Understand Japanese Tattoo Designs

Ancient relics such as clay pottery and statues showed images of Japanese people who were intricately tattooed. Even more fascinating, the first Japanese tattoo designs were found on people of high social standing. Many Japanese historians now agree that the earliest Japanese tattoo designs were utilized in rituals to signify the positions of people in society, as well as to provide ways to protect one's self from evil spirits.

The Japanese people are one of the first great civilizations to incorporate tattooing into their culture. While in China the art of tattooing began as a way to mark off the prisoners and the other outcasts of society, the Japanese tattoos were valued in a different manner from the start.

Japanese tattoos are rich in inspiration. Like all arts, the Japanese learned to incorporate their most important values into their skin through tattoos. This is the reason why one of the cherished values of the early Japanese people, religion and love, is often the primary motifs of the people's tattoos. The courtesans, artists, and even the geishas of Japan were all acquainted with tattooing and used it as personal markers of their religious backgrounds and who they love.

An example of how Japanese tattoo designs were used to symbolize love was in the vow tattoo. Some geishas will have their lover's names imprinted in their arms in order to show their promises of lasting love. Aside from being used for making promises about love, the tattoo in Japanese society also evolved aesthetically.

During some periods, the design of these tattoos were rendered with intricate detail. On the other hand, during some other times the Japanese had tattoos were less like pictures and more like moles. These dot tattoos were symbolic and were also often used by lovers to indicate the places where their loved ones had touched them, such as the hand.

Eventually, the Japanese tattoos came to posses not only a cultural note, but also a social and political one. From the late seventeenth century up to the latter half of the nineteenth century, many middle class people used tattoos to express their social and political sentiments.

Everyone from the office workers of that time, to the farm hands and the street merchants began placing high value on the political statements that were expressed through Japanese tattoo designs. Even the upper class members of society looked upon tattoos with high regard, and many shows were conducted to showcase the craftsmanship of many tattoo artists.

Selecting A Thigh Tattoo or Leg Tattoo Design - Artwork That Fits

Choosing a thigh tattoo or even a leg tattoo in general can be a pain. There are countless designs and artwork to choose from, but you must be careful which art piece you choose.

I assume that you already know the general area where you would like your leg tattoo. Whether it is on your calf, or it happens to be a nice thigh tattoo, you will want to find exactly what will look good on your particular body. Most of the random images on websites or Google will not be a good choice, because they were not actually drawn to be a thigh tattoo or even a leg tattoo.

The size and shape of your ultimate tattoo choice will limit where you can place the design. There are literally thousands of options for placement of a leg tattoo, so even if your search takes a while, it will not be in vain.

The best thing about choosing a thigh tattoo, or any leg tattoo, is that they are very easy to hide. But, you can also really show them off if you want to, because a leg tattoo tend to stand out when it is visible. Depending on the pants, or for women, a skirt, you can do just about anything you want with a leg tattoo.

Another great advantage of getting a thigh tattoo or leg tattoo is that they have a long life. First, they do not see the sun very often, unlike other places on your body. It is also a good choice because that part of your body does not bend very much, if at all. You may not have known, but bending is a very key thing to the life of a tattoo, which a thigh tattoo seems to avoid thankfully. Lots of bending and folding will create a "blending" effect on your artwork. If you have ever seen a blurry tattoo in somebody, now you know why. With a thigh tattoo or leg tattoo, you do not need to worry about this.

Another plus about getting a tight tattoo or leg tattoo is that they are very easy for your artist to draw and sketch. This is because there are not many contours and curves on this area of your body. A semi-flat surface for your artist means that you are going to get their best work. It will also take much less time to complete, which your body will appreciate! Wit ha thigh tattoo or leg tattoo you can get twice the amount of artwork done and it will cost you the same price as a smaller tattoo on another part of your body.

Now we come to the different places to find quality thigh tattoo and leg tattoo artwork and designs. While you will be able to find random images of good leg tattoos, you have probably not been totally, 100% convinced that a certain piece of artwork is perfect for you. Don't worry, though, because this tends to happen quite a lot. There is a reason the images you are seeing are scattered all over the internet: They are either plastered on so many other people already, or they are very cheap designs and are not tattoo artist friendly, which means that if you bring that piece to your artist, he/she will have a very hard time trying to ink it onto your skin. Spending thoughtful time when selecting your thigh tattoo or leg tattoo will pay off in the end.

There are so many other great quirks about the tight tattoo and leg tattoo and you probably know most of them, which is why you are thinking about one in the first place. Spend some good, quality searching time on your search for a thigh tattoo or leg tattoo and you will be one happy tattooed person.

Need a Tattoo Idea? Tattoo Designs and Ideas

Need a Tattoo Idea or Design? Well you have come to the right place. With the growing popularity of tattoos, you cannot help but think about getting one. One thing that you want to make sure you do is get a tattoo idea that you will like forever, because tattoos are permanent. Unless of course you are willing to pay a ton of money to get it removed.

You may have a great tattoo idea but cannot find a design or picture that you really like enough to go and get it done. Some people search for a tattoo design for several months before they finally get one. The basic idea when getting a tattoo is that you should really do your research and find something you really like. Whatever you do, don't just go into a tattoo parlor and pick out one of their tattoo designs and get it done. You should take your time and think about the design. Here are some possible solutions.

Research your tattoo idea. Many times you may have an idea of the exact tattoo you want, then you browse through some tattoo designs and you find a similiar one that you like better. This is one great reason why you shouldn't just pick a tattoo idea out of the tattoo parlor book. While many people have a picture in mind for their tattoo, some people consider Japanese or Chinese lettering. You can spell out a name or something special to you. So you see, a tattoo doesn't always have to be a picture of something. It should really be whatever you want, after all it is your body. Don't get a tattoo just because you saw a cool tattoo picture.

After you research your tattoo idea it is a good idea to browse the internet for other possible tattoo designs. You never know, you may come across a whole new idea that you like better than your old one. This is why research comes in handy because you don't want to go get a tattoo and then find an incredible tattoo design months later and regret your first one. Many search engines will help you out greatly. Just try a search on google for "tattoo idea". You will get some great tattoo ideas.

Now that you have picked out a tattoo design you may want to go and seek out a worthy tattoo artist. This can be difficult. You don't just want to get your tattoo at the first parlor you walk into. Again, research is key. Ask people you know where they got their tattoo and how the artist was. Many times you can find a tattoo artist that will draw your tattoo idea so you can visualize how it will look once on your skin.

If you follow these steps you will appreciate it in the long run. Just because you have a tattoo idea now doesn't mean there is not a better one out there. Do you research and pick something you like.

Finding the Best Back Tattoo Designs For You

Since your back is the flattest and widest part of your body, it makes some sense that it is perfect location for a tattoo. And since the "canvas" is so large, you can be creative with the back tattoo designs. A lot of people start off with a small tattoo design or two on their backs before migrating to a large tattoo that connects everything together.

And the process can cover a period of time because quite frankly, the large back tattoo designs requires a lot of thinking. And why? Obviously because the tattoo design covers a large area, it will be very difficult and expensive to remove if you have regrets. So for most people, taking it slow and easy by starting off with a back tattoo or two is the perfect way to go before going all out and getting a single large tattoo for the back area.

Again, I strongly urge you to put a lot of thought into your back tattoo design BEFORE you get it done! And for anyone who never had a tattoo done before, there is nothing wrong with getting a small tattoo or two at first. Just to see how you like them because tattoos are not for everyone.

To start off, I suggest that you check out the tattoo studios in your area. And take the time to explore the tattoo design possibilities. Do not feel rushed. If a tattoo artist tries to rush you or you feel uncomfortable with them, walk away and find someone else. But find a good tattoo artist that you absolutely feel good about. I say this for two reasons. First of all, that tattoo artist must be a good one, not necessarily a cheap one. Because many times, you get what you pay for. And tattoos are pretty permanent. So get a good one. The second thing that is very important is how they treat their equipment and how careful they are with it. It is very important for them to follow the regulations and rules to prevent passing any diseases to you. You only want a tattoo, not a death sentence or a lousy design imprinted on your back.

And when you do find a tattoo studio that looks promising. If the tattoo artist is good or has a lot of confidence in his or her abilities, they are going to allow you to look at their flash designs in books. If you find a design that you like, more the better! And the variety and depth of many tattoos will astonish you.

The flash tattoo designs that you find at the old-school tattoo studios will have animals of all kinds, butterflies, dragons, fantasy art, nature scenes, tribal style tattoos, Asian art and lettering, Celtic knots, flowers and skulls. You name it and they have it.

And your tattoo artist is going to have a portfolio of their best work in a book. And you may like one or two of them. My suggestion is to try to customize it a little so that your tattoo is original and fresh. Looking at the photographs of other back tattoo designs might give you some inspiration on what design that appeals to you.

Don't forget to do a little crawling on the Internet for some other back tattoo designs and ideas. There are sites that have a huge gallery of flash tattoo designs that you can download (usually for a fee) and print out for your tattoo artist to trace on your back.

Another good source for tattoo design ideas can be the tattoo magazines that you find at your bookstores. For those who are more creative and a pretty good artist can even design their own tattoo!

But even if you are NOT a good artist, don't let that stop you. There are tons of awesome tattoo designs that appeals to every single whim and taste. The only thing you need to decide on is the colors, shading and size of the tattoo. A good tattoo artist can help you out with that one.

And after you done your research, you can gather all the ideas together and try to come up with the most perfect tattoo design for you! And while trying to decide what exactly you want, consider a design that perfectly encapsulates of who you are and what you are all about. A great tattoo is one that reflects the best characteristics of you, one that inspires you to greatness, makes you laugh or makes you remember something very important and meaningful to you.

So there you are. You can choose to get a full back tattoo, a lower back tattoo, or a shoulder blade tattoo. The choice is yours but take the time to look at all the possible tattoo designs before choosing the final tattoo design for you. Doing so ensures that when you are getting tattooed, you know it is going to be a great one and you will be proud of it too. Tattoos are almost permanent and you will love it for the rest of your life.

So there you go. If you do your homework, the back tattoo designs can be a wonderful source of pride for you. You need to put in the time and energy to plan everything so there are no surprises like waking up with 56 tattoos on your face! And make sure that it is the tattoo that you really want and would love seeing on you every single time you see it.

Sleeve Tattoo Designs - Dragon, Tribal, Celtic, and Japanese Tattoos on Your Arms

Sleeve tattoos have become extremely popular in the past few years because they are an amazing way to tell a story or create a living work or art and expression. With different pictures working together, a person can evoke many feelings at once.
Dragon Tattoos

Dragons are a symbol of wild fire and excitement. A dragon interwoven into a sleeve tattoo can add red color and flare. Fire breathing from the dragon, circling the arm can really add an amazing effect to any tattoo.
Tribal Tattoos

These symbols with many meanings can be placed at the shoulder and chest area to create a design worthy of the style. You can create a picture just with this type of tattoo in plain black ink. If you use color on your arm and keep the tribal tattoo black you can create amazing contrast.

Celtic Tattoos

Adding Celtic Symbols to a sleeve tattoo adds a splash of culture to any piece of work. Their are a variety of different symbols you can use to convey the meaning you want.

Japanese Tattoos

Japanese symbols are a beautiful way to say many things at once. A single symbol can convey the meaning of peace on earth or love for all. This is a good way to keep things simple for the eye but leave the mind thinking about what it saw.

Creating this type of work of art takes time and effort. Many people build a sleeve tattoo over many years adding extra designs and symbols as they think of them.

for this reason, you need to make sure everything is exactly as you picture it in your mind. A single design done in a way you do not like can ruin the entire thing and leave you in regret.

The Reason Behind the Power of the Lotus Tattoo

One good way to express your personality and your individuality is by means of a tattoo. Every tattoo design carries with it a certain meaning and symbolism that can represent you. The choice is up to you; you can choose from a wide variety of designs. Certain types of flowers, for example, give you a good choice for a design. A lot of people like flowers for this purpose. And when it comes to flowers, the lotus flower is a very popular choice. These flowers carry a significant amount of meaning.

And the meaning of a lotus flower is rooted in the way in which it grows. You don't usually think of the bottom of a still body of water is something pleasant; in fact, "pond scum" may come to mind. Yet it is here that the lotus flower gets its beginning.

The lotus flower begins to grow at the bottom of still water. Its beginning is as a small bud attached to a vine. The vine begins a gradual climb towards the surface of the water. What is interesting is that the bud keeps facing downward, even as the vine goes up towards the sun. When the bud is close to the surface, it finally turns around to face the sunlight. Once it reaches this state and it's free of the water, the flower blossoms into a stunningly beautiful state.

The symbolism is obviously powerful here. Namely, that something so beautiful could have risen out of the slimy muck of the bottom. Yet this is the progress it makes - from an ugly start to a beautiful finish.

These are some of the meanings of the lotus tattoo:

* It represents love and the nostalgia that goes with it
* It symbolizes birth and the beauty that rises with it
* It stands for a new beginning in life

So not only is the representation of the lotus flower something grand, it can also be something truly beautiful. If you can find a tattoo artist who can capture this beauty for you, you are bound to have a great work of art show up on your skin. The lotus flower tattoos tend to take on the vibrant colors that they have in real life.

A lotus flower tattoo is indeed a great choice if what you are after is a truly beautiful tattoo. You can be sure that this kind of tattoo will command a great deal of admiration wherever you go with it. So don't hesitate to get your own.

Express the Darkside With Gothic Tattoo Designs

Gothic tattoo designs identify the wearer as a member of the Gothic subculture. There are many different associations and stereotypes about gothic tattoos, but they are trendy (especially among those involved in the subculture) and beautiful.

The Gothic subculture is one that notes a preoccupation with death, a different idea as to what qualifies as beautiful and a worship of said beauty standards, a tendency to concentrate on the darker aspects of the human psyche, and to advocate manipulating one's appearance, which means that they are especially apt to get tattoos!
Ankhs and Gothic crosses are popular Gothic tattoos. The ankh is the Egyptian hieroglyph for "life," which is contrary to the Gothic glamorization of death. Those who are aware and take the death preoccupation seriously will invert the ankh, as though to suggest the opposition to life. Gothic crosses are typically heavily adorned, deliberate, and also exalt the beauty in death.

Those who identify as Gothic are sometimes drawn to the idea of getting their own bones tattooed onto their skin. Popular choices are the ribcage, which looks stunning when done by a very skilled artist, and the spine, which can be incredibly beautiful as well if handled correctly.
Mythical creatures of Gothic preoccupation are frequent subjects of Gothic tattoos. For example, fairies, dragons, and the white rabbit are popular tattoos among members of the goth subculture. Another frequent choice is to get fairy, angel, dragon, or bat wings tattooed onto the back which can look really cool.

Other popular Gothic choices are roses, especially black, skulls and skeletons, and spiders. Also, the gothic admiration of vampires makes a tattoo of a vampire bite popular. These choices are generalizations as to what is popular among Gothic people, but they can look very stunning and identify someone as a member of the subculture.
Obviously, the ultra-popular Gothic lettering is not only prevalent in those members of the subculture, but among tattoo enthusiasts everywhere. The extensive artistry in the lettering makes it ideal for tattoos due to the beauty in the lettering. Also popular among goths are tribal tattoos, usually chosen by a member of the subculture because they are typically black and symbolic.

Gothic tattoo designs are limitless. If you identify as a member of the subculture, you can dream up just about anything. If you are simply expressing your individuality, the sky is the limit. You can display to others your ideals if you agree with and follow the Gothic lifestyle.
